How Zakat Can Support Eligible Local Families

Zakat can provide meaningful relief when distributed carefully to eligible recipients.

How Zakat Can Support Eligible Local Families

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is a fundamental act of worship that purifies wealth while strengthening compassion and social responsibility. It is not simply a charitable donation—it is an obligation upon eligible Muslims and a trust that must be distributed according to the guidance of Allah ﷻ.

When managed responsibly, Zakat helps eligible individuals and families meet essential needs such as food, housing, clothing, utilities, medical expenses, and other necessities during times of hardship. Through Zakat, communities care for one another, reduce financial hardship, and help restore dignity to those facing difficult circumstances.

"Take, [O Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase."
— Surah At-Tawbah (9:103)

Who Can Receive Zakat?

The Holy Qur'an clearly identifies the categories of people who may receive Zakat. Allah ﷻ says:

"Zakat expenditures are only for the poor, the needy, those employed to collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, for freeing captives, for those in debt, for the cause of Allah, and for the stranded traveler—an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise."
— Surah At-Tawbah (9:60)

Every application received by Rizq Relief is carefully reviewed to determine whether it meets these Islamic eligibility requirements. Depending on the circumstances, applicants may be asked to provide supporting information or documentation so that assistance is distributed fairly and responsibly while honouring the trust placed by donors.

A Trust From the Community

Every dollar of Zakat is an amanah (trust). Donors give with the intention of fulfilling an obligation to Allah, and organizations entrusted with these funds must ensure they are used only for eligible recipients in accordance with Islamic teachings.

For this reason, Rizq Relief follows a careful review process, maintains accurate records, protects confidential information, and applies consistent assessment procedures. This helps preserve both donor confidence and the dignity of those seeking assistance.

The Virtue of Helping Others

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged Muslims to support those in need and reminded believers that caring for others brings immense reward from Allah.

"Whoever relieves a believer of one of the hardships of this world, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection."
— Sahih Muslim

In another authentic hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said:

"The upper hand is better than the lower hand."
— Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim

This reminds us that giving sincerely is an honour and a blessing. Through Zakat, Muslims strengthen their relationship with Allah, purify their wealth, and contribute to a community where no eligible family is left without support.

Serving Regina With Dignity

Rizq Relief is committed to distributing Zakat with integrity, transparency, and compassion. Every request is handled respectfully, personal information remains confidential, and each application is assessed fairly according to Islamic principles.

By working together as a community, we can ensure that Zakat reaches those who are genuinely eligible, helping local families overcome temporary hardship while preserving their dignity and fulfilling one of Islam's greatest acts of worship.
