Community Overview

The IAOS Board has formed various committees, each comprising a small group of community members focused on a specific area of work — such as maintenance, communication, or fundraising. Committees make recommendations to the IAOS Board and may also be delegated certain responsibilities, while accountability remains with the Board.

Purpose:

Promote brotherhood and unity among Muslims.

Strengthen relationships with other Islamic institutions.

Encourage mutual understanding with the wider community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain the IAOS website and publish newsletters.

Develop a community database and coordinate with Regina Huda School.

Facilitate communication with MSA, Muslims for Peace & Justice, and other organizations.

Engage media and government when required.

Provide reports to the IAOS Board every four months.

Purpose:

The fundraising committee oversees and conducts all fundraising activities for IAOS.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop strategic fundraising plans and financial targets.

Ensure ethical fundraising and proper donor acknowledgment.

Coordinate with other committees and external charities for joint efforts.

Provide quarterly reports to the Board.

Purpose:

Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient IAOS facility conducive to prayer and education.

Duties:

Oversee building maintenance, utilities, and repairs.

Coordinate snow removal, lawn care, and safety measures.

Report quarterly to the Board on activities and needs.

Purpose:

Develop and manage membership growth, renewal, and elections.

Duties:

Encourage community membership and maintain records.

Oversee elections and member eligibility.

Recognize volunteer contributions and manage renewals.

Purpose:

Promote Islamic teachings, organize religious activities, and advise the Board on faith matters.

Duties:

Coordinate prayers, halaqas, and Quran programs.

Invite scholars and arrange Islamic conferences.

Assist in marriages, funerals, and religious counseling.

Purpose:

Promote unity and organize cultural, social, and leisure programs for the community.

Duties:

Host Eid gatherings, potlucks, and youth events.

Support refugees and new immigrants.

Provide social counseling and emergency support.

Purpose:

Encourage fitness and brotherhood through sports and recreational activities.

Duties:

Form community teams and organize tournaments.

Coordinate with MSA and Regina Huda School.

Promote healthy lifestyles across all age groups.

Purpose:

Assess infrastructure needs and develop long-term plans for mosques, schools, and community assets.

Duties:

Gather community data and forecast needs.

Work with local authorities on new facilities.

Develop short-term (3 years) and long-term (10 years) goals.

Purpose:

Provide dignified funeral and burial services in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Services:

Assist families through the burial process.

Coordinate with City of Regina and Speers Funeral Services.

Provide ghusl, kafan, and casket services.

Maintain funeral facility and communicate announcements.

Purpose:

Support Muslim business owners and professionals through networking and resources.

Duties:

Develop a database of local Muslim-owned businesses.

Provide mentorship, seminars, and marketing opportunities.

Encourage youth entrepreneurship.

Purpose:

Assist the Treasurer and Board in financial governance of IAOS.

Duties:

Support budgeting, auditing, and CRA compliance.

Review expenditures and strategic financial decisions.

Purpose:

Deliver and expand Islamic education for children, youth, and adults.

Duties:

Plan and manage Quran and Islamic education programs.

Prepare IAOS Education Calendar and oversee resources.

Report monthly to the Board with program updates.
